Sally

Sally qualified from Glasgow University in 2002. Her passion for large animal practice, dairy cattle
in particular, was obvious even then and she won Glasgow’s prize for best Farm Animal Student for
her year.

Sally’s working life has been spent almost entirely with dairy cattle, working with practices
in Cumbria, New Zealand and Somerset. She also spent a very useful period of time as the
resident vet on a bull stud in Wales. All of this has combined to give her a firm grounding from
which to realise her career ambitions.

Sally
Sally set up Evolution Farm Vets in 2007, with the aim of providing the best veterinary
care and the best service in Somerset and feels that, with the help of her dedicated
team, she has achieved just that. Sally strives to be the best at what she does and it is
typical of her energy and enthusiasm that in 2008, whilst still growing her new business,
she also managed to find time to become one of the youngest vets in the country to
gain her Diploma in Bovine Reproduction.

Dedicated to, and passionate about, absolutely all aspects of being a veterinary surgeon, she particularly enjoys working with her clients to progress their businesses and sees her job as being very much a “complete service”. Her area of special interest and study is neo-natal calf health.

Nick
Nick qualified in 2003 from Liverpool University, where he decided that his future lay within
farm-animal practice - and with dairy cattle in particular.

Since qualifying, his experience has been wholly with large animals, working mainly with dairy
cattle in Cheshire followed by a stint in New Zealand during the busy calving season,
gaining valuable concentrated experience in this area. Whilst his main interest lies
with dairy cattle, he also has an interest in sheep and alpaca medicine.

Nick is a dedicated, conscientious vet and an excellent
surgeon. He loves all aspects of his job; his enthusiasm, thoroughness and attention
to detail is immediately obvious to his clients and helps to give them the trust
they need in their veterinary practice. He gains an enormous amount of satisfaction
from providing the very best service to his farms and from seeing the improvements
made possible by farmer and vet working in tandem - just one of the reasons why
he fit in so well when he joined Evolution in 2009.

Nick sees his future spent concentrating on herd-health, with a strong emphasis on fertility and nutrition. As a means of satisfying his appetite for more knowledge and constant challenge, he hopes to enrol shortly to study for his Diploma in Bovine Reproduction (DBR).

Alun
Alun qualified from Bristol in 2008, where he went on to accept a one-year internship at the vet
school’s veterinary practice in Langford - a rare opportunity. There, he worked as a practising
vet with farm animal clients whilst benefitting from valuable extra training on the more complex
side of farm-vetting. This gave him the chance to gain excellent in-depth knowledge of his
subject whilst, at the same time, improving his practical ability. He also enjoyed the
opportunity to conduct some very useful research into infectious diseases in suckler herds.

Born and raised on a small beef farm in Carmarthen, Alun’s background is solidly cattle which is
where, unsurprisingly, his main interest lies. However, he also has a strong interest in sheep
and hopes to keep a small flock along with a herd of pedigree Charolais when he realises his
long-term ambition of keeping his own stock “in his spare time”.

Enjoying all aspects of being a veterinary surgeon, his occupation-of-choice is
being on-farm amongst the animals. Alun is extremely hard-working and confesses
to liking all the jobs that most people hate . . . .

An excellent vet who automatically looks at problems from a farmer’s point of
view, he is a very valuable asset to our farm animal practice.
