More on our services......

• 24-hour Service: he emphasis here is on "service", in the old-fashioned meaning of the word. We understand that farmers are very busy people, working long and unsociable hours and we know that every extra minute spent is another added at the end of your day. We would like to feel that we make your lives a little easier, and we provide services with just this in mind. A few of these services are listed below. If you can think of any others that would help, please ask. If we don't already provide it, we will certainly consider doing so if at all possible.

- Free routine delivery of meds to your farm. See section on Meds/pricing below

- Direct line to an Evolution vet out of hours. We do not employ outside cover for night-work or weekends. For those times when we are out of range or already on-farm, we carry pagers. You will be given the pager number in a recorded message if we cannot take your call - so, an emergency should always get through to us without delay.

- You will, where possible, have the same vet for most of your visits. We think that "what happened last week" should be saved for ITV2, not replayed on your farmyard.

• Fertility Work: Good fertility is the basis of a sound, profitable herd, yet poor fertility remains one of the major problems facing the UK dairy industry today. This is therefore where the bulk of our work is concentrated. Evolution Farm Vets place great emphasis on identifying trends on your farm which might be indicative of future problems.

If you milk-record, we are able to input your collated fertility data into our specialised software, producing accurate individual reports for each farm which highlight problems lurking around the corner.

We routinely scan non-bulling cows in order to help identify reasons for apparent non-cycling, as well as cows from 30 days after service.

• Bull Fertility: Test your bull’s effectiveness before leaving him out with your cows all summer. Evolution’s bull-soundness check includes a full physical examination of the reproductive system and a microscopic analysis of a semen sample aimed at revealing any abnormalities.

• Cell Count & Mastitis Management: At Evolution, we take great pride in the results which we are achieving with these long-standing problems.

We are very aware that fighting these battles can be a depressing, disheartening time for the farmer — and one which can easily be overwhelming when combined with the many other daily problems of a dairy farm. We therefore take as much of the burden from your shoulders as possible, producing practical, easy-to-follow plans which break the problem down into bite-sizes chunks. We set many achievable targets along the way which we find helps to give you that very necessary feeling of progress.

Neither do you need to worry that we will abandon you as soon as a little improvement is seen. This, we all know, is a long-haul journey and we help you all the way, producing monthly cell-count reports to keep you on track and spending as much time as you need going over and discussing the problem-areas.

• Herd Health Management: We believe that it is paramount nowadays for a veterinary practice to have full up-to-date information on the DISEASE STATUS of all its client-farms at its fingertips. Evolution clients routinely have bulk-milk samples taken, giving all necessary information concerning the presence of not only common diseases such as Lepto, BVD & IBR but also ones which are increasingly becoming a national problem in the UK such as Liver Fluke and Johnes, amongst others. Having established a farm’s status, we monitor any deterioration by means of quarterly tests as required.

Believing firmly in the old adage “prevention is better than cure”, we actively promote VACCINATION by making sure that our vaccines are very reasonably-priced. Thus ensuring that vaccination is economically viable, we hope to encourage the growth of the preventative approach to veterinary medicine.

Farm audits often require HERD HEALTH PLANS, which we are happy to produce on request. However, we do boast that we know the status of most, if not all, of our herds without needing to refer to records. We play as active a part as we can in helping you to avoid mistakes which could result in both a herd-health and a financial disaster.

• Medicine prices: We have designed our charging structure to be as fair and as transparent as possible. We charge for professional time which we actually spend on-farm, with no “visit charges” for calls made during a regular working day, thus giving you more control over the size of your bills. We can therefore afford to price our medicines very reasonably. We provide, free of charge, a regular meds delivery service direct to your farm, with the additional option of convenient collection points for any interim orders. This has proved exceptionally popular with farmers, giving them extra time in an already-busy day. Our automatic texted reminder is a popular prop to remind our farmers to check their stocks when order-time approaches.

Price lists for meds can be requested by text to 07912 123557 or email - please provide a phone number when emailing

• Sheep flock health planning: As well as working with both dairy and beef cattle, we also enjoy working with sheep and being involved in flock-health planning. Along with traditional meat and wool-producing flocks we are seeing, due to the rising interest in alternative milk sources, an increase in the number of milking-flocks in this country. Milking flocks, of course, throw up problems very similar to those of dairy herds, making sheep a natural extension to our main work as dairy cattle vets.

• Farmers’ meetings: Ah .... the fun part!! Our meetings are meticulously planned with the aim of giving our farmers not just an informative time, but an enjoyable one as well. It is good for all of us (vets and farmers alike) to be able to occasionally meet up away from the pressures of the farmyard.

For this reason we arrange not only relaxed farm walks and on-farm meetings but also Pub-Grub evenings which involve a bite, a beer and an interesting, topical talk from a guest speaker. Our speakers are invited because they are eminent and well-respected in their fields, thus enabling you to hear first-hand all the latest available information.

And sometimes of course, we have a get-together just for the fun of it!! BBQs, parties - all are anticipated over the next 12 months.....

Check our Events page for news of upcoming fixtures. Use our contact page to let us have details of any particular event or speaker which you would like to see on our agenda - we love to receive suggestions!
